Concussions

I have a nice little "corner" office with no windows, a small filing cabinet where I keep... nothing, a long L-shaped desk, two shelves and a broken "guest" chair.

Unfortunately, because my office is so little, my "guest" chair sits snuggly between the filing cabinet and the door and under my shelves.

This has seemed to cause a problem for those who do not move the chair out before sitting down. First they bend over and begin their momentary booty free fall toward the chair which ends up being much lower than they had expected. Once that wave of shock has passed, they then make a quick comment with a smile that they weren't expecting such a low chair.

This is not where their embarrassment ends, but only where it begins.

You see, the shelves are somewhat low and this wasn't a problem until I received my broken chair (actually, I do not remember the origin of the chair. I just know that it has appeared in my office as many people find solace in venting their frustrations to me and they needed somewhere to sit. This is when the stork magically bore me a chair).

Once said person has free fallen to their seat, they immediately lean back and ram their head into the corner of the bottom shelf. Sometimes they laugh it off, sometimes they ignore it and continue, and sometimes they react angrily.

This scenario plays itself out at least three times a week, if not more.

The shelf corner is rounded and therefore does not pierce through to the soft brain matter, but it hurts nonetheless.

Most recently, the founder of the company has reenacted my chair to shelf dance once on Friday and once this morning, even though I warned him ahead of time.

He then became flustered and, not realizing that when he had entered my office he had not fully opened the door, turned and ran smack into the door.

In all reality, it's kind of funny. I know, I'm going to hell for that.

Hooray and Hoochacha!

I awoke this morning feeling in quite the decent mood and began to get ready as usual.

I then remembered that I was out of clean pairs of jeans... darn it! The only jeans left are those that I have not fit into since last October...

Well, I had to give it a try, and...

THEY FIT!!!

They're a little snug still, but they actually made it past my booty and buttoned with little to no resistance!

It's an April miracle!!

Unfortunately, I haven't taken my measurements or stepped on the scale in the past week so I have no idea what I have actually lost, but I now have a whole new wardrobe!

If I can get down to my goal weight which is the bottom of the healthy weight for someone with my bone structure, age, and height, I'll be able to fit into my skinny, skinny jeans!!

Of course, the loving boyfriend has been all too wonderful with this whole deal.

When I get done running at night he will take long walks with me to help me burn off a few extra calories! And on weekends we take especially long walks as well! Wonderful!

I think I'll have to have my bridesmaid dress taken in! Wouldn't that be fantastic!!??!! I will no longer be the biggest bridesmaid (and I'm not really that pudgy! It's those darn toothpicks that the bride is friends with!)

Back from the DEAD!

Yes, it has taken me some time to get back to the blogging! Exactly two weeks!

Woops!

Well, I have been a busy, busy bee.

I recently received a new light box, which has dramatically boosted the requests for my sketches/drawings/renderings and I haven't had a second of time to blog until now!

I am the perspective drawing queen in our office. In the past two days I have successfully completed six perspective drawings!

I've heard that the average person only truthfully works 20% of the week and the rest of their time is spent surfing the internet, chatting with co-workers, and generally dazing off into space.

I believe in the past two weeks I have only spent a solid 5% of my time goofing off. I feel like I have run four marathons in a row and have not stopped to rest.

Although, on a positive note, I feel more accomplished than I ever have at this company and I have a more diverse set of work examples for my portfolio as, previously, we did not draw by hand... ever. I mean, I think only two, maybe three, people in this office have ever taken a drawing class and if I am to achieve the ultimate (a position with a REAL firm!!) I have to show that I have actually DRAWN something for a real job and not just school! I have to prove that I am well rounded in my design abilities in both computer and hand drawing!

FINALLY! I can show something for my five years with this wretched place and, not to toot my own horn, I don't think they're half bad!!

I think I'm going to spend the rest of the day napping under my desk and dreaming of how much more diverse my portfolio will be!

And, by the way, I can't wait to be able to put my portfolio together because I have discovered Blurb.com. If this doesn't catch their attention (a "published" portfolio) then, darn it, nothing will!

Another Friday filled with ADD

It's freaking gorgeous outside and I am stuck behind my desk, in my windowless office, cursing my incredibly slow computer (although, this is all my own fault for creating large Adobe files for marketing/presentation use) and wishing the next half hour would go much faster so I can get the heck out of here!

I have been using the "smoker" break to go outside and fill my lungs with fresh air and my skin with some good old vitamin D. No, I don't smoke but if they get to go outside then so do I!

Tonight will be filled with friends and music... and a few too many drinks! Just the way I like a nice Friday night!

Until then, I will be reading my Landscape Architecture Magazine with vigor because I am taking any and all possible measures not to do anything productive. I may even clean the office coffee maker!!!

A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood

It snowed like a mo-fo yesterday and for some reason my mental state is pretty much non-existent as though it were 75 degrees and sunny and I had a window... in my dreams!

Lately I have been contemplating planning a grandiose date plan for the boy toy as we hardly ever have a night out on the town. I mean, almost never!

A typical date night consists of one of us making dinner, sitting on the couch and going through the DVR's recorded list so that our DVR isn't full and we can record all of the "great" Sunday night TV for another "date". Fabulous.

We are SO boring (although I find comfort in that most of the time!)

So, I have been thinking that I should use my time surfing the internet aimlessly to actually look into some really fun dates that I can take him on. Hopefully they won't be expensive...

We'll see how this turns out! I'm excited!
